I need to say... The part the girl sings "Can you fight for me..." that part is sampling Rowetta's beginning of her song "Be". The second part, aka. the dance break, is Robin's "Show Me Love".

I personally think that they made a mistake by sampling a song by someone who didn't give them permission to do it! So I can understand to a point why she would be angry about it.

But Steve Angello and Laidback did both Show Me Love and Be with Rowetta so maybe they should be seeking the money not her

But Rowetta is still a part of it, isnt it? If someone samples 3 Words without permission, both Will.I.Am and Cheryl could threaten with legal action. It's their song.

Just listened to both songs again... I know they are both done by Steve Angello and Laidback, probably why they sound so alike.

So if someone samples Biology without Girls Aloud's permission, they can't do anything about it just because they didn't write it? This is now a personal doubt btw.

The writer owns the song, not the performer.

It's a strange one though, because while she did sample it, she didn't make money off of it, so I can't see that there'd be any case to answer to.

This is not really any different to a DJ mixing two songs together in a club, only difference is that this performance was in front of 6m people instead of a small crowd, but the principle is the same.

I don't think there's any case to answer to here

This Rowetta sounds like a b*tch
Cheryl didn't make money from it and Chezza could probably wipe the floor with her

I understand where this Rowetta chick is coming from, but I can't help but get the feeling that that she's doing this to get attention. I find it funny how she keeps saying that she doesn't have a problem with Cheryl yet bashes her indirectly.

BUT, I do think that they shouldn't have used her song if she was so against it. I honestly don't understand what the big deal is, but if she refused to let Cheryl sample her song, they should have just scrapped it altogether. Cheryl is already getting so much stick for her performance and this silly legal action is just going to fuel the bashing.

I'm not going to pretend I know all the legal technicalities here, but I don't think Rowetta will have much of a case. Cheryl is signed to Polydor which is owned by the largest music company in the world (universal), if Rowetta said no to using her song originally, I'm sure the lawyers would have looked into whether on not they could still use it or not before they went ahead.

My guess is that the company that ran/broadcast the Brits, like most TV broadcasters, would have purchased a blanket performance license which would mean they could broadcast whatever songs they wanted to and the cost of the license would cover paying royalties for writers/artists/music companies.

Yeah, truthfully, neither do I. She could have been wearing an AirCast, but I thought she had it wrapped and everything?? :/

She sounded like she was singing live. Nothing of her top layer of vocals was the same as her album track. Definitely pitchy in some parts and out of breath, etc signifying she was LIVE on the mic. Backing track for backing vocals maybe, but not her singing.

I love the remix breakdown, can someone whip up a studio version?
