FOX NETWORK OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

British pop superstar Cheryl Cole will join Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Simon Cowell as a judge on THE X FACTOR, the highly anticipated singing competition series debuting this fall on FOX. Cole, who has sat alongside Cowell as a judge on the U.K. version of “The X Factor” for three years, is a multi-platinum-selling solo artist and a member of Girls Aloud, one of the U.K.’s most successful female vocal groups of all time. Cole will join Cowell, Reid and an additional judge (to be announced) as they travel to THE X FACTOR audition cities searching for the next global superstar or breakout music group.

“I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with,” said Cowell. “She is also a complete brat! Most importantly, this girl can spot talent.”

“I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of THE X FACTOR. I absolutely love it here in the U.K., and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special. I can’t wait to get started,” said Cole. “I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me. He’s tried to beat me for three years in the U.K., and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.”

“Cheryl Cole has the whole THE X FACTOR package: She’s an incredibly talented artist and performer, as well as a style icon, and she has that special charisma that draws in fans around the world,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Cheryl’s charm and chemistry with Simon have been a key part of the overwhelming success of ‘The X Factor’ in the U.K., and we can’t wait to welcome her to the U.S. on our air.”

“As a young artist whose talent show discovery led to almost immediate stardom, Cheryl’s career exemplifies the promise of THE X FACTOR,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “Her empathy and passion for identifying and nurturing undiscovered talent has made her a huge hit with British audiences, and I have no doubt America will fall in love with her beauty, her accent and her incredible chemistry with Simon Cowell.”

Auditions continue in Dallas, TX, on Thursday, May 26. Now through this Sunday, May 8, hopefuls may also audition in specially built high-definition recording studios in Honolulu, HI; Phoenix, AZ; Nashville, TN; Anchorage, AK; Kansas City, KS; and Denver, CO.

THE X FACTOR is searching for undiscovered talent 12 years old or over – both solo artists and vocal groups – who are willing to brave the panel for a chance to win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music. Interested solo artists and vocal groups should sign up now for audition information at www.fox.com/theXfactor or call toll-free 855-345-5678.

In a departure from other singing competition series, the first time contestants audition for THE X FACTOR judges, they will do so in front of an audience of thousands – raising the stakes and increasing the pressure to impress not only the judges, but also a potential legion of fans. This will be the ultimate test to prove they have the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence that it takes to win an unprecedented $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.

As previously announced, Pepsi will serve as an official sponsor of THE X FACTOR. The comprehensive sponsorship includes an extensive, multi-platform off-air marketing partnership; weekly in-show integrations and placements; and an immersive content experience online.

THE X FACTOR is produced by Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America. Simon Cowell, Rob Wade and Siobhan Greene are executive producers for Syco Television. Cecile Frot-Coutaz, Richard Holloway and Andrew Llinares serve as executive producers for FremantleMedia North America.

About Cheryl Cole

There aren’t many who have successfully made the transition from girl group to solo star. But one woman who has, and made it seem utterly effortless, is Cheryl Cole. Cole’s first solo single, “Fight For This Love,” was the fastest-selling single of 2009, and both of her solo albums charted at No. 1. The first, “3 Words,” has been certified triple platinum. Three further top five singles followed, along with two BRITs nominations and winning the coveted Best Music Act at the ELLE Style Awards 2011. In making these albums, Cole collaborated with an impressive number of music’s A-list, including Dizzee Rascal, Travie McCoy, Taio Cruz and most notably will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas. As well as effortlessly charming her collaborators, Cole has garnered many a famous fan too. Adele, the voice of 2011, chose to cover “Promise This,” the No. 1 lead-in single from Cole’s second album, “Messy Little Raindrops,” in the Live Lounge on Radio 1. Another very big fan is Simon Cowell, who personally handpicked her as a judge for “The X Factor” in the U.K. in 2008. Cole became an instant hit with viewers and went on to win the show in both 2008 with Alexandra Burke and 2009 with Joe McElderry. The last season of “The X Factor” was the most talked-about show in Britain, regularly attracting audiences of 15 million. The finale peaked at 21 million viewers and saw Cole with two of her contestants in the finale. Cole has also become a leading style icon. She has graced the cover of British Vogue twice, the first time becoming the highest-ever-selling February issue in the title’s history. She has also appeared on the covers of Harper’s Bazaar and ELLE. Cole is also a L’Oreal spokesmodel fronting the L’Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 hair care range. Despite massive success as a singer, style icon and TV star, Cole is keen to give back. In February 2009, she joined an expedition to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise money for Comic Relief. In February 2011, Cole announced the launch of her own charitable foundation with The Prince’s Trust. The Cheryl Cole Foundation will provide funding to work with disadvantaged young people from Cole’s hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne and surrounding areas of northeast England. Cole did her growing up in Girls Aloud, the U.K.’s most successful girl band. Formed on TV show “Popstars: The Rivals” in 2002, they went on to record five albums and sell over 10 million records. Girls Aloud topped the singles chart four times, had 20 top 10 singles and won the BRIT Award for Best Single in 2009 with “The Promise.” Girls Aloud won critical acclaim and fans from every corner. Their third album, “Chemistry,” got five-star reviews, and the single “Love Machine” was covered by the Arctic Monkeys. Coldplay’s Chris Martin personally requested that Girls Aloud were on the lineup alongside Jay-Z for the Wembley Stadium shows in 2009. From NOTW.

CHERYL COLE will be a judge on the American version of X Factor - with a £10million payday.

The Geordie beauty is a complete unknown in the States but show boss Simon Cowell has defied resistance from telly chiefs there and assured her of a place on the panel.

Formal contract negotiations are expected to begin early next month on a 15million dollar, two-year deal with the Fox network.

Last night our X Factor source revealed: "Simon is the boss of this show. He gets what he wants and he wants Cheryl. The money you make on American TV is huge, but there's also a huge risk.

"The way American contracts are gives Fox the chance to opt out if viewers don't take to her. But Simon won't let that happen."

Puffy... Cheryl arrives in Venice Puffy... Cheryl arrives in Venice

Cheryl, who looked tired and puffy-faced as she arrived in Venice yesterday for a corporate concert, is already living part-time in Los Angeles to begin a so-called "boot camp" to transform her into a US TV star.

The Girls Aloud singer had to agree to experts taking control of her image and toning down her Geordie accent to help her become accepted by the public there. The source said: "She understands Americans don't know her and wants to come across well."

Cheryl will earn even more through a Universal music deal.

Our insider explained: "As soon as it's announced she's going to be a judge the plan will be to launch her music career in the States.

"It's important Americans realise she's a credible music star if she's going to be judging other singers." Meanwhile, we can reveal Cowell plans to return to the UK version, despite suggestions he would skip this year's series.

He is also urging Cheryl to remain on the British show for an increase in her £1.7million fee. The source said: "Cheryl would prefer to do only one show but Simon wants her to stay on."

Cowell will appear on Fox for the first time today in a 30-second advert for US X Factor during the Superbowl costing £2million.

I thought I'd post it, but it's not true - no way would Fox offer a two year deal. Even in the UK they only get one year deals. And as for £10 million, really? For a complete unknown star? Hilarious

They only offer one year deals in the UK because that's the way Simon wants it. It has nothing to do with ITV. Standard contracts in the US are 5 year deals for shows. So a 2 year deal wouldn't be surprising at all.

I'm not saying the NotW story is accurate, but equally, the timeframe and the money offered for a 2 year deal would not be at all surprising. It's an entirely different league money wise from the UK.

They wouldn't sign a new unknown star for that much on a two year deal, Kara whatsherface on AI had a similar low-pay one year deal as a tryout and that's what I imagine Cheryl getting if she goes get something. Also the UK deals are done via TBB and Richard whatshisname, Simon has a say obviously but it's not him alone.

J-Lo only signed a one year deal for AI this year - http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/09/14/jennifer-lopez-signs-one-year-american-idol-deal-for-12-milli/

The article doesn't even make sense anyway, as it goes on to say "Formal contract negotiations are expected to begin early next month" which seems very late as the lineup is meant to be announced next week

The UK deals are all about Simon regardless of who else is involved. Again, I'm not saying she does have a two year deal, but in line with other US shows, it'd be far more common than a one year deal. As for J Lo, I imagine she wouldn't have wanted to sign on for more than that.

Even a relatively low paying deal on US tv would still see her getting multiple millions.

Ellen originally had a two-year deal for AI that she got out of.

Cheryl will be seeing a fairly large paycheck regardless.

The two year deal thing isn't surprising and it makes sense. In another article I read about this, they mentioned an opt-out clause, I think, that basically said if the US public don't 'warm' to Cheryl, they can have her replaced.

:greatpost:

If it is true, good for her. Being offered the opportunity to possibly stay for two years is amazing. It's the perfect window for her to break America... Not to mention the money isn't all that bad.

Plus, doesn't the £10m include Music, TV and UK X Factor?  So it could be a lot less, if she doesn't do UK X Factor

Nope, it says "on a 15million dollar, two-year deal with the Fox network."

Unless Fox are going to be doing her music as well

You've answered your own question - the article says that no contract has been signed and won't be signed until early next month, so how can they announce the panel on Wednesday? What happens if they can't agree on a price or terms of whatever?

The two year deal thing isn't surprising and it makes sense. In another article I read about this, they mentioned an opt-out clause, I think, that basically said if the US public don't 'warm' to Cheryl, they can have her replaced.

They generally would have a 1 year deal plus an option for a second year, that may be what the article is getting at and it could just be worded a bit wrong

They're not all about Simon at all, he is just the public face of the show. There a number of producers on the panel, Simon can be overuled (and has been in the past). It's Richard Holloway who makes a lot of the big decisions on the show, he's the one that actually does the judges' contracts and decides on most aspects on them, along with ITV for whom Beth Hart represents. Simon just does his bit with Syco, the judges contracts are via with TBB and ITV though. It'll be the same in the US, just replace ITV with Fox, so both Simon and Richard will be getting their say in the contracts just like the UK. Obviously Fox do have a say (just like ITV do in the UK) but it is afterall Syco's format. The reason they do 1-year-contracts in the UK is because they like to mix it up, keep the show fresh and of course allow the press to speculate each year which of the judges will be back. How many frontpages have their been about Dannii Minogue not coming back, for example?  Yet if she signed a 3 year deal or whatever, these reports would be silly. It's ultimately all down to press and hyping the show up. One of the key reasons for this show's success is the support of the press and I see no reason why this format will change for the US.

A one year deal may be uncommon, but in the context this is avery uncommon show. We're talking about a complete unknown with Cheryl - it's not even like she's a Z-list Big Brother star or something - going onto what it set to be the world's most hyped and perhaps biggest watched launch of a reality series. As above, the article may mean 1 year + option for a second year, but I cannot see any reason why Fox would offer her a two year deal or, for that matter, why Cheryl would sign one just like J-Lo. No one can predict how this will turn out.

But anyway as I said before, the article goes on to say that contract negotiations haven't even begun yet so where this two year $15USD deal comes from I've actually no idea at all. I can only conclude the author pulled it from his arse!

Fox has released two all-new teaser promos for the upcoming US X Factor.

The second trailer, which went out during a special episode of Glee, includes a variety of popstars such as Lady GaGa, Justin Bieber and Madonna, followed up by the tagline: "Have you got it?"

Speculation is rife over who will join Cowell on the judging panel. Stars such as Rihanna, Katy Perry and Cheryl Cole have all previously been linked with the coveted spot.

The X Factor airs on Fox in the fall.

'X Factor USA' announcement coming today!
Monday, February 7 2011, 08:34 GMT
By Ryan Love, Entertainment Reporter

The official website for The X Factor USA has confirmed that "big" news about the show will be revealed today.

Speaking at the National Television Awards last month, Simon Cowell stated that he would be making an announcement within two weeks. However, it is not yet known if the update will confirm the Fox show's judges or presenter.

"It’s what we've all been waiting for. The X Factor. Airing on Fox this Fall," the site teased. "And we're on a mission to find America's top undiscovered singing talent.

"Be sure to check back tomorrow for some BIG X Factor news."

The Twitter account for Cowell's Syco Music confirmed that a "big announcement" will be made at some stage today.

The news comes as two new promos for the reality competition premiered on US television last night.

I thought it'd be a teaser anyway - it seemed a little illogical for Simon to be all "The X Factor's coming and these are the judges" straight off. There needs to be more of a hype created before that happens, so it makes sense to announce the judges today (or sometime this week/in the near future).

“THE X FACTOR” … HAVE YOU GOT IT?by The X Factor on FOX on Monday, February 7, 2011 at 8:37am

Auditions Begin Sunday, March 27, in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York/New Jersey and Seattle Also to Host Auditions. Sign Up Now for Audition Information at www.fox.com/theXfactor

Simon Cowell, Sony Music, FremantleMedia North America and FOX announced today that the highly anticipated singing competition series THE X FACTOR will award the show’s winner with a record-breaking $5 million record deal – the largest guaranteed prize in television history – with Syco, a joint venture between Sony Music and Cowell.

THE X FACTOR is looking for talent young and old alike – with no upper age limit – to audition for a shot at becoming the next global music sensation. Auditions for the inaugural season of THE X FACTOR begin on Sunday, March 27 in Los Angeles at the L.A. Sports Arena. Chicago, Dallas, Miami, New York/New Jersey and Seattle will also host auditions. Specific dates and venues to be announced.

“I like the idea that a 12-year-old on this show can compete with an older singer and a singing group,” said Cowell. “I’ve never believed there should be a cut-off age for talent, and we are going to put our money where our mouths are with the $5 million recording contract. I’m doing this show in America because I genuinely believe we can find a superstar.”

“I have always been proud of the achievements of THE X FACTOR worldwide, and am looking forward to its American launch,” said Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO and President of Sony Corporation. “I have no doubt THE X FACTOR will find winners worthy of international acclaim and career longevity, and believe with Sony’s worldwide effort, the winners’ potential can be unlimited.”

“THE X FACTOR has become a worldwide phenomenon and is unlike anything we’ve seen in America,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “The British version is wildly entertaining, but also has a penchant for stirring up controversy. You never know what Simon has up his sleeve, and since he will be working both behind and in front of the camera, the country should brace itself to expect the unexpected.”

“Since its U.K. debut in 2004, THE X FACTOR has proven itself a global success story in numerous territories worldwide,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO of FremantleMedia North America. “Now, as we bring this widely popular format to U.S. audiences, I look forward to building a new franchise for a new decade with the return of the inimitable Simon Cowell.”

THE X FACTOR judges will travel the nation searching for undiscovered talent 12 years old or over – both solo artists and vocal groups – who are willing to brave the panel for a chance to make their dreams come true. In a departure from other singing competition series, the first time a contestant auditions for the judges, he/she will do so in front of an audience of thousands – raising the stakes and increasing the pressure to impress not only the judges, but also a potential legion of fans. This will be the ultimate test to prove they have the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence that it takes to become a global superstar and win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music.

In the coming weeks, THE X FACTOR host and judges panel will be unveiled and announcements will be made about audition opportunities that will give everyone 12 or over in America – no matter where they live – the chance to show that they’ve got it. There also will be reveals of unprecedented initiatives that will make THE X FACTOR unlike anything else on television.

Solo singers and vocal groups who believe they have what it takes to compete on THE X FACTOR should sign up now for audition information at www.fox.com/theXfactor. Additional details, including eligibility requirements, are also available on the site. Hopefuls should check back regularly for updated information and complete audition rules and registration forms.
