Girls Aloud For Olympics Opening Ceremony In 2012

After the news that Girls Aloud will reform next year to mark their tenth anniversary, reports are suggesting that they will open the London 2012 Olympic Games.

According to insiders the five girls; Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Sarah Harding have been asked to open the ceremony and are currently in negotiations.

A source said: “With the girls already planning to reform next year Olympic Officials are keen for them to open the games.

“They are the biggest British girl group in recent years and what better way for them to celebrate their tenth anniversary?”

Girls Aloud formed in 2002 on ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ and have had twenty top 10 singles, five studio albums and a Greatest Hits compilation.

It has already been rumoured that the Spice Girls would open the games on July 27th with Melanie C claiming it would be a “brilliant idea”.

well who would turn down an offer like that?
I personally would prefer GA to be there, but the whole world knows about spice girls and not that many people know about GA outside UK so it would be much better if SG are there (I wouldn't mind that either because I was a huge SG fan when they ruled the charts so I'd be happy to see them, but not as happy as if it was GA who are there)

Okay guys but just don't get me wrong I really love both of GA and the SG and tbh, I don't care who are up for Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. I just want the SG to perform the Opening Ceremony and I don't mind GA either.

Just get one group for the opening ceremony and the other one for the closing ceremony. Voilà.

Seriously though, I don't think it will happen but I really hope I'm wrong. I'd love to see either of them (or both ;)) in the opening.

Kimberley Walsh has announced that she doesn’t want Girls Aloud to reunite for the London 2012 Olympics.

It was rumoured that the group, formed on reality TV show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, were set to come back together and perform at the opening ceremony of the London Games next year, to mark their ten year anniversary.

However, after launching her own solo music career by appearing on UK rapper Aggro Santos’ hit Like U Like and trying out a different career path by presenting VIVA show Suck My Pop, it seems that Kimberley has no set plans to reunite with the her old band mates yet.

In a recent column for OK! Magazine, Kimberley wrote: “There was a story about Girls Aloud marking our ten-year anniversary with a reunion gig at the Olympic Games…That's news to me!”.

“It would be an honour to open the Olympics but we haven't discussed that. The five of us definitely have plans to do something to mark the anniversary, though, but I'm not sure the Olympics is the place for that.”

She added: “I think, for the fans, we'd like to perhaps do something on our own instead of as a bill of different acts.”

Walsh’s fellow GA members, Nicola Roberts and Cheryl Cole are also keeping themselves busy at the moment, as Nicola will be releasing her solo album, Cinderella’s Eyes, later this year and Chezza has just started her new role as a judge on The X Factor USA.

So for now, it’s still unsure whether we will be seeing the girls together on stage again.
