Campaign to Untouchable By Girls Aloud Into The Top 10
« on: August 09, 2011, 01:55:03 AM »
I know this thread is not going to be popular and will receive the typical "oh but it won't work,we've tried this countless time, give up!" but please just read this and hear me out.

Untouchable became the girls first single to end their consecuitive run of top 10 singles. Ironically, the song was described by many music critics as their best one yet. The video was also met with approval from music sites, including Digitalspy. Sarah Harding said Untouchable had a 90's dance feel to it. The record was met with approval from fans and was described by many as Girls Aloud's best song produced yet

When it was originally released,Untouchable was in the top 100,slowing working its way up to the twenties posistion. Eventually it peaked at No.11,the following week it had fell to the No.14 posistion

A Facebook Campaign began in January 2010 to get Untouchble back into the charts. However, this failed and the single peaked at 127. Since then, there have been countless reattempts. However,I must stress this, none have reached the numbers that would require a top 10 single to have and no interest was really generated in the campaigns that subsequently followed

Now,in an attempt to get Girls Aloud's Untouchable back into the charts and to continue the band's reign I've set up a Facebook campaign, admittedly with 0 members(I've only just created it). However, this campaign will be properly organised and no definite month/date will be set for download,etc... until we reach 10's of thousands of members(easily accomplishable considering Girls Aloud's army of loyal fans)

A LOT of planning will go into this campaign.Promothing(through bebo, facebook, myspace, fansites for the girls, other uk music forums, tumblr, youtube videos) and of course setting out the guidlines. This campaign will be PROPERLY organised. Once we get enough members a list of sites which are eligible to the charts will be posted,as well as rules(why you can't buy the song from one account as this will not count and not to download all at once).

If enough members are reached to even have a chance of Untouchable cracking the Top 10,some UK fans could join up with fans outside of the UK(who wanted to contribute to the campaign - i.e a fan outside of the UK would send a fan inside of the UK money to buy the song on their behalf - perhaps a fund could be set up specifically for the campaign and a list of guidelins posted so nobody gets confused)

There's no point saying "It's not going to work" This campaign will not get anywhere with that attitude. I know I sound blunt but it's true tbf. Fair enough,if you don't want to take part but by posting in this thread your inhibitions and doubts overall about this campaign you're putting off the people who genuinely do want to contribute and have a go at helping out. We need to positive

I KNOW these campaigns have been there, done that but this one REALLY will be properly organised. I was chatting to a Girls Aloud fan(who actually is a good friend of mine). Initally, she was perplexed at this campaign happening again. If you knew her,you would say she is a very negative person and a total pessimist(the most unenthusiastic person in the world!) She did LOL when I told her about the campaign but after explaing and outlining the whole plan she relented and said "Well, why not? It's not hurting anbody? Might as well give it a go. People aren't made of money obviously Sarah but not everyone has to buy from Itunes. Why don't they just buy from the cheapest site to count towards the charts" She then went on to tell me that Cher Lloyd got N0.1 despite not being No.1 on Itunes(which is random and toally irellevent but that's for another day!)

I also suggested this to a fan on Twitter who does gigs at clubs/bars. She plays to a young crowd and according to her a lot of the crowd have requested Girls Aloud songs. She usually gets a pretty big turn out and told me that if I wanted her to,she could give the campaign a shoutout at her gig(there are some hardcore GA fans that go to her gig and would certainly be interested in the campaign)

Now,obviously promotion is a huge thing for any campaign to stand a chance of suceeding. As well as the various social netoworking sites,I thought that in the lead up to download week Untouchable could be requested on radio to play. Also some radio presenters could be contacted and let known. Maybe even a tweet could be sent to Nicola and Nadine on Twitter(both who have thousands of followers) and Cheryl even(although I think her account will be like Beyonce's to be honest)

There's a great Daily Mail article on here which was published at the time of Untouchable's release. It just really reminds you why this is all worth doing and why we should give  it a shot: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1164561/Girls-Aloud-prove-theyre-Untouchable-don-PVC-outfits-daring-new-video.html

And of course, the official video for Untouchable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDdBRF0MXig

I'm not saying all of you have to download,I'm just saying there's no harm to try just one more time..for a great op tune if not for the girls themselves.

I'll always be willing to give it a shot but unfortunately not many people would do the same...so that's why I have to say what they all keep saying...it won't work :|

I know exactly what you mean. A lot of people probably do want to participate and try again but then there are negative people saying it won't work, which is probably quite understandable considering the last one failed. I just wish people would just give this a chance one more time. Especially with this campaign being properly organised and no date/month being set until enough members are reached

^ I completely agree with you but people don't want to give it one more shot...we know what we did wrong last time - we relied on some nokia free downloads which didn't count to the charts and that was the main reason why it failed.
But it seems to me that less and less people care about girls as a group, too many people are just into their favorite member, or into some new group (the saturdays) and they just aren't bothered anymore.
It's not the end of the world for me that it didn't reach top 10 but it's a shame that their last single that they released is remembered as the one that broke their top 10 run.

I don't get why people are so negative about Untouchable reaching #11!

Fair enough, it was their last single as a group so far and it ended their row of consecutive (sp?) top 10 hits and it is a shame.

However, there have been so many attempts that have failed and I think we should just let it be the hit that didn't get to the top 10. I know that sucks but I hate how there's so many campaigns! It's tarring it with the thought "this is that annoying GA song the fans just won't leave alone!" and, in general, an annoyance!

I don't want Untouchable to be an annoyance! I want to be proud of it because it got to #11 with pretty much no promo. What promo did the girls do? A music video and a performance on DOI? It's amazing to get a chart position like #11 with such little promotion!

So can we just ditch these campaigns and be proud of the girls for getting to #11 with a song, with tiny promo?

This won't work, when Untouchable was released the girls were trying to get people at the concerts to buy the single so it'd go in the top 10 and that didnt work.
The attempt last year was a good effort but it failed people were willing to try but now most people have just decided to leave it as it is including me. It would be great if it worked but like nabojsa said not a lot of people are that interested in GA as a group these days only the die hard fans, most people have now moved onto another group The Sats, Parade, Wonderland etc.
Yes its a shame that the last single they relased didnt make it into the top 10 but like people have said with no promo it did well when first released. They should have released it just after they did DOI then it might have charted better. Lets face it The Loving Kind didnt really do that well because i still remember the week it was released trying to promote the single and buying far too many copies of it  just to try and get it in the top 10 whihc it did in the end but only down to the fact the fans rallied around and made it happen.
If you're still going to do it then i do wish you luck and hope you manage to get enough interest in it, for it to even stand a 10% chance of working you'll need to get the press and media on side and thats going to be hard  :(

What are people meant to do?! Hold out for a reunion that may actually never happen? Only allow themselves to like ONE band? That's crazy. Besides, you're allowed to be a fan of other girl groups etc; it doesn't make you any less of a fan.

I don't know why people can't be happy with the fact they have 20 consecutive top 10 hits. Very few artists even get 10 consecutive top 10 hits.

People didn't even think they'd make it past their first single and look what they've achieved. Okay they have 1 single that missed the top 10. So what? It wasn't like it reached number 78 and the fans like to pretend it never happened. Tbh if it does turn out that they never release another single ( :drama:) then I think this is the perfect last single anyway. Regardless of the chart position.

I agree with people saying we should just let it go.

In 2007, fans of the Spice Girls organised a campaign to get 'Stop' to #1 (it was the only Spice Girls single that had not reached the top spot until then). The Spice Girls had just announced their reunion tour, they had / have a relatively big worldwide fan base, Perez Hilton wrote about it on his blog... And 'Stop' only got to #78.
Imagine what's going to happen to the 'Untouchable' campaign with a smaller fan base, without the hype of a "comeback", and without the support of people / sites that could make a difference.

But the real moral of the story is that a song is not worth more or less because of its chart position.
'Stop' is one of the best-known Spice Girls songs, regardless of the fact that it ended their streak of consecutive #1 singles.
Girls Aloud and the fans love 'Untouchable' and I think it's a very special song for us all. That won't change just because it didn't enter the Top Ten.

I agree it's time to let it go. It's hard enough getting new songs into a top 10 yet alone an old one that the non hardcore fans don't really care about and most of the hardcore fans already have. Besides what difference does 1 spot make. we wouldn't even be having this campaign if most people referred to the charts as the top 11 instead of top 10.

I have to agree with pretty much everyone else. And the reason there is negativity surrounding it is because a) it's been done to death, and b) it clearly hasn't worked in the past. Why take part in something that hadn't worked before when we had a massive campaign and more support from fans? While I admire your optimism, the circumstances have changed; the girls aren't together any more (yet?) and they don't have as many fans as they did back then. And as said before, people are favouring other bands now anyway. Number 11 isn't bad, it's only one out from top ten. Just let it be :D

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Yeah there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Ah let it be, yeah let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music,
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Yeah let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah let it be
Oh there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah let it be
Oh there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Ah let it be, yeah let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Thanks to Vicky for my sig

When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
'Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile
The whole world stops and stares for a while
'Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are

id always be willling to try, but its not like 11 was a bad chart, yeah it broke there run, but by 1 place, the girls will always be know for the amazing chart history, and amazing band that they are
all we need to do is if/when the release a new single, we make sure that gets to the top, if they didnt release a single, i think it would be an amazing idea to get untouchable to number one for there tenth aniversary
