I know this thread is not going to be popular and will receive the typical "oh but it won't work,we've tried this countless time, give up!" but please just read this and hear me out.
Untouchable became the girls first single to end their consecuitive run of top 10 singles. Ironically, the song was described by many music critics as their best one yet. The video was also met with approval from music sites, including Digitalspy. Sarah Harding said Untouchable had a 90's dance feel to it. The record was met with approval from fans and was described by many as Girls Aloud's best song produced yet
When it was originally released,Untouchable was in the top 100,slowing working its way up to the twenties posistion. Eventually it peaked at No.11,the following week it had fell to the No.14 posistion
A Facebook Campaign began in January 2010 to get Untouchble back into the charts. However, this failed and the single peaked at 127. Since then, there have been countless reattempts. However,I must stress this, none have reached the numbers that would require a top 10 single to have and no interest was really generated in the campaigns that subsequently followed
Now,in an attempt to get Girls Aloud's Untouchable back into the charts and to continue the band's reign I've set up a Facebook campaign, admittedly with 0 members(I've only just created it). However, this campaign will be properly organised and no definite month/date will be set for download,etc... until we reach 10's of thousands of members(easily accomplishable considering Girls Aloud's army of loyal fans)
A LOT of planning will go into this campaign.Promothing(through bebo, facebook, myspace, fansites for the girls, other uk music forums, tumblr, youtube videos) and of course setting out the guidlines. This campaign will be PROPERLY organised. Once we get enough members a list of sites which are eligible to the charts will be posted,as well as rules(why you can't buy the song from one account as this will not count and not to download all at once).
If enough members are reached to even have a chance of Untouchable cracking the Top 10,some UK fans could join up with fans outside of the UK(who wanted to contribute to the campaign - i.e a fan outside of the UK would send a fan inside of the UK money to buy the song on their behalf - perhaps a fund could be set up specifically for the campaign and a list of guidelins posted so nobody gets confused)
There's no point saying "It's not going to work" This campaign will not get anywhere with that attitude. I know I sound blunt but it's true tbf. Fair enough,if you don't want to take part but by posting in this thread your inhibitions and doubts overall about this campaign you're putting off the people who genuinely do want to contribute and have a go at helping out. We need to positive
I KNOW these campaigns have been there, done that but this one REALLY will be properly organised. I was chatting to a Girls Aloud fan(who actually is a good friend of mine). Initally, she was perplexed at this campaign happening again. If you knew her,you would say she is a very negative person and a total pessimist(the most unenthusiastic person in the world!) She did LOL when I told her about the campaign but after explaing and outlining the whole plan she relented and said "Well, why not? It's not hurting anbody? Might as well give it a go. People aren't made of money obviously Sarah but not everyone has to buy from Itunes. Why don't they just buy from the cheapest site to count towards the charts" She then went on to tell me that Cher Lloyd got N0.1 despite not being No.1 on Itunes(which is random and toally irellevent but that's for another day!)
I also suggested this to a fan on Twitter who does gigs at clubs/bars. She plays to a young crowd and according to her a lot of the crowd have requested Girls Aloud songs. She usually gets a pretty big turn out and told me that if I wanted her to,she could give the campaign a shoutout at her gig(there are some hardcore GA fans that go to her gig and would certainly be interested in the campaign)
Now,obviously promotion is a huge thing for any campaign to stand a chance of suceeding. As well as the various social netoworking sites,I thought that in the lead up to download week Untouchable could be requested on radio to play. Also some radio presenters could be contacted and let known. Maybe even a tweet could be sent to Nicola and Nadine on Twitter(both who have thousands of followers) and Cheryl even(although I think her account will be like Beyonce's to be honest)
There's a great Daily Mail article on here which was published at the time of Untouchable's release. It just really reminds you why this is all worth doing and why we should give it a shot:
